Introduction

There's something very enjoyable about pottering around with web-technologies. Everything is shiny, everything seems new. There is often *shock* reasonable documentation. You can often do a great deal with not very much. An API there, a library here and all of a sudden you've got quite a powerful web-app on your hands.

For quite a long time, I've played around - but there's never been a focus or a purpose to it. Really, it's been mostly hacking to see what happens. Now though, it's time to showcase some of the stuff I've been doing. I really hope to produce some good looking, intuitive tutorials on how to interact using some of the most 'happening' technologies around. This way, I'm learning how to do it and passing that knowledge along - a lot like what I did with my dissertation project.

So, the first project is getting my website set-up on Google App Engine (which I've done, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this!). Below is a checklist of things I've still to do before I consider the site to be 'done' and I can move onto writing up the tutorials.

  • Register Application on Google App Engine.
  • Upload basic website.
  • Settle on a theme/colourscheme.
  • Migrate data from previous blog.
  • Create blog page/blog module.
  • Create auto-generated RSS feed.
  • Enable auto-upload of RSS feed to Dropbox.
  • Enable forwarding of /feed.xml to Dropbox RSS location.
  • Allow login of external users using Google Login.

  • Add access to blog archive.
  • Allow login of external users using Facebook Connect.
  • Allow comments to new blogs/articles.
  • Add Twitter feed to front page.
  • Create 'Code Formatted' tag for Code Snippets
  • Add sensible advertising to article pages.
