Well, enjoying Melbourne so far. It has been seriously hot...but it rained for some of yesterday and for this morning so far.
We have not done all that much - we have the neighbours tour and the great ocean road tour to do over the next wee while - other than that we have been attempting to figure out what our plan in Oz in - do we work, where shall we work, when shall we work...so many questions and so few answers at the moment.
Yesterday we did go into Melbourne - a pretty place...with lots of things to do - we did see where the tennis was last week and we are probably going to go and see some cricket this evening.
Been hanging out with our room mates a fair amount at the moment - Dan from England and Ted from the Netherlands. They are good chat - we play cards and drink beer...
Since we are right next to the beach we decided to go swimming yesterday evening. So off we went - we got there and I saw jelly fishes...so I was a little scared about going in - I was not convinced that jelly fish are a good thing to go swimming with. But the boys were all in and I thought well if they have not been stung so far then I would be ok...
So I went swimming (the water was not too deep we could still touch the bottom)...and then I felt it - a horrible sting on my back...
don't panic Fi, don't panic..."I've just been stung by a jellyfish"...and so I swam (probably better than I have ever swum) back to the shore...managing to keep my panic at bay...
we went to the nearest cafe who seemed so not worried about the whole thing - apparently they get people all the time and were happy to give me some vinegar to put on the sting to neutralise it...oh man it was seriously sore :(
BUt I have lived to tell the tale - nothing has fallen off, I am still in one piece and the chemist said there was nothing better than using vinegar...
So I survived my first meeting with nature in Australia - and to be honest I think it will take me a while to go swimming in the sea again!
Bad jelly fish - they certainly are not my squishy!!
